From Variety: Johnny Flynn, John C. Reilly to Star in Survival Thriller ‘A Prayer for the Dying’ for Anton, New Europe (EXCLUSIVE)

Johnny Flynn (“Ripley,” “One Life”) is set to lead the cast of survival thriller “A Prayer for the Dying,” with John C. Reilly also joining the film, now in production outside Bratislava, Slovakia.

Anton and New Europe Films are co-repping worldwide rights, and will continue sales at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. 

Written and directed by Dara Van Dusen, “A Prayer for the Dying” is based on the novel by Stewart O’Nan and takes place in 1870 in Friendship, Wisconsin, a small town of Scandinavian settlers still suffering the repercussion of the recent Civil War. When faced with a new and even deadlier threat, one man is forced to make a harrowing choice: save his young family or defend the community that gave him a second chance at life and meaning. Flynn will play Jacob Hansen, the sheriff responsible for the safety of the town, while Reilly will play the local doctor.

From Deadline: Callum Turner, Kristine Kujath Thorp & Gustav Lindh To Star In Dara Van Dusen’s ‘A Prayer For The Dying’

EXCLUSIVE: Rising British actor Callum Turner (Masters Of The Air, The Boys In The Boat) is set to star alongside Norway’s Kristine Kujath Thorp (Ninjababy, Sick of Myself) and Sweden’s Gustav Lindh (The Northman, Queen of Hearts) in Dara Van Dusen’s A Prayer For The Dying.

Anton and New Europe Films sales have co-acquired international rights for the upcoming English-language survival thriller.

Based on a novel by Stewart O’Nan, the film takes place in 1870 in Friendship, Wisconsin, a small town of Scandinavian settlers still suffering the repercussions of the recent Civil War.

Happy Halloween, from ScreenRant and The Week

The Night Country is listed as one of ten best Halloween books, via ScreenRant and Reddit. In fine company with the likes of Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, and Bram Stoker!

Ghosts and Halloween are a winning combination, and Stewart O’Nan’s The Night Country found a clever new way to blend the two together. Reddit user bittybro gave a great rundown of their favorite Halloween book when writing, “The Night Country by Stuart O’Nan. Ghost story that takes place on Halloween. Told from the POV of the ghosts.”

And from The Week, the novelist Elizabeth McCracken lists A Prayer for the Dying as one of her “favorite novels of the past 25 years”:
